I'm posting this link because it will give many of you information on a condition that is caused by smoking.
I was a smoker, and a heavy one at that...up until recently I smoked 3 packs a day for the past 20 years. ..not a good thing.
In my last blog http://blog.myspace.com/ravnstar which was at the beginning of the month, I said that I wasn't feeling good because I thought I had a cold....wrong answer! After a week of playing around with it, my lungs finally decided to stop working...On the 14th of November I was rushed to the hospital via medic 9 in the throws of acute respiratory failure....I spent a night on a ventilator, 2 nights in CCU and another couple of days in hospital. If it weren't for the quick action of my sister, the EMT's and the emergency staff I would be dead. All this because, after being diagnosed with COPD in august, I decided to smoke again....Well I've quit for good this time and will never touch cigs again...Death kinda does that to ya....It's been 10 days and I feel great sofar.
COPD stands for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease....It's usually chronic bronchitis and Emphysema sometimes with an asthma component. It is caused by smoking...it is not curable, It usually gets worse, and it sucks.
So if anyone out there is reading this and smokes, do yourself a favor...stop. I'm only 45...too damned young for COPD...but three packs a day will do that to ya.
